Mirabai Films

Mirabai Films, established in 1989, is based in New York City, Kampala, Uganda, and Delhi, India. Founded in 1989 by acclaimed filmmaker Mira Nair, Mirabai Films moves fluidly between commercial and non-profit pursuits.

Nair has directed ten narrative feature films, as well as several short films and documentaries. Her work has been recognized by the Cannes Film Festival, the Venice Film Festival, the Emmy awards and the Golden Globes, among others. She used the profits of the Oscar-nominated debut Salaam Bombay! to create the Salaam Baalak Trust for India’a street children. Additionally, she founded the Maisha Film Lab, a filmmakers’ training program for East Africans, in 2005.
