MIRA NAIR DELIVERS 11TH VARIETY CINEMA MILITANS LECTURE

At the 22nd Netherlands Film Festival in Utrecht the renowned Indian director Mira Nair will deliver the eleventh Variety Cinema Militans Lecture. On Sunday 29 September at 5 pm she will present her vision on the future of cinema. The festival takes place from September 25 through October 4 in Utrecht, The Netherlands.

The fixed theme of the lecture, ‘the position and viability of cinema in the present age’, is an adaptation of the theme of Menno ter Braak’s essay ‘Cinema Militans’ from 1926. Ter Braak, who is considered the first Dutch film theoretician, is one of the founders of the Filmliga, along with other people like Joris Ivens.
Mira Nair’s Variety Cinema Militans Lecture will be published in the first edition of the Weekly Variety that will come out after the festival.
